House Dems raise $16.7M in September

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had yet another record-breaking fundraising month, bringing in $16.7 million for the month of September.

{mosads}That sum also marked its best month in online fundraising this cycle, with $7 million raised online, and $163.2 million raised for the cycle.

The DCCC had $34 million cash on hand heading into the final month of the midterm election cycle. That’s $8 million more than they had in the bank at this point in 2012, but it’s a sum they’ve needed, as they face a difficult climate heading into the final stretch of an election season that has kept them largely on defense.

They’ve been forced to reshuffle resources over the past two weeks, largely to bolster incumbents, as they’ve seen tough races nationwide tighten, due in part to an influx of spending from outside Republican groups that hasn’t been met by outside Democratic groups, which have focused their resources on the battle for the Senate.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has not yet released its September fundraising sum.

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) said the fundraising sum would help Democrats “remain competitive” in the final month of the elections.

“Heading into the homestretch, we can only remain competitive if we over-perform — and that’s exactly what we’re doing. This record breaking month is driven by our incredible grassroots supporters who refuse to sit back and let House Republicans’ special interest allies buy this election,” said Israel.
