Rep. Doug Collins’s (R-Ga.) vote for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) might have earned him a primary challenge.
Conservative radio host Al Gainey (R), a former Hall County commissioner, tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he is “prayerfully considering” a run against Collins because of his support for the Speaker.
“I just cannot believe that we have had to put up with more of the same from everybody that goes to Washington from Georgia, from the senators in the past to the current congressmen for the most part,” he said.
Georgia’s GOP delegation voted unanimously for Boehner, a surprise for many, since a number of the group’s new members were viewed as hard-line conservatives when they were elected. Collins, elected in 2012, built a conservative record in his one House term.
Gainey admitted that the challenge would be a long shot if he goes through with it — and acknowledged he wasn’t sure what other votes he’d take issue with.
Collins tells the Journal-Constitution that he’s had his own “frustrations” with Boehner but that no one ran a serious race against him.
