Dem may leave Congress for local office

Rep. Janice Hahn (D-Calif.) might leave Congress to run for local office, according to one of the congresswoman’s advisers.

{mosads}”In recent months, Rep. Hahn has received a tremendous outpouring of support and words of encouragement to run for L.A. County Supervisor from leaders across L.A. County,” Hahn adviser David Jacobson tells the Los Angeles Times. “She plans to make public her 2016 intentions sometime in the near future.”

Jacobson said Hahn has grown “frustrated with the relentless gridlock in Washington.”

There will be an open seat on the board, which, in many ways, is more powerful than holding a seat in Congress. Supervisors represent more people, get paid better and can get much more done than members of Congress, especially those in the minority. California representatives also face one of the longest commutes in Congress.

If Hahn decides to return to Los Angeles politics, where she spent most of her career, her heavily Democratic seat will almost certainly stay in Democratic hands.

She wouldn’t be the first California Democrat to opt to return to Congress. Last year, then-Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Calif.) opted to leave the House after one term to return to local politics.
