Primary opponent blasts Ryan for attacking Trump

Paul Ryan’s primary opponent blasted the House Speaker on Tuesday for calling out Donald Trump, saying that he is effectively helping Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president.

{mosads}In an interview with CNN, Paul Nehlen, a local Wisconsin businessman, said that Ryan should be doing more to support the Republican nominee.

“Well, it’s morally disqualifying because when did — when did Speaker Ryan ever attack Mr. Obama or Hillary Clinton on any of her policies the way he’s attacking Donald Trump right now. He should be trying to unify this party that is his role,” Nehlen said, according to a transcript of the interview.

“Shouldn’t he be focused on supporting Mr. Trump and figuring out how he can partner with him?” he added. “She’s trying to tear him down right now. He should be reporting in-kind contributions to Hillary Clinton’s campaign for God sakes.”

When Nehlen was asked if the break between the two GOP leaders indicates disunity within the party, he responded by calling Ryan a “mercenary champion.”

“No, I don’t,” he said. “In fact, I think it shows disunity with one person, and that is Paul Ryan, the mercenary champion for working against Donald Trump every opportunity he gets.”
