Clinton super PAC targets House Republican

A super PAC backing Hillary Clinton released an ad Tuesday blasting Rep. Rod Blum (R-Iowa) over his support for Donald Trump, marking the first time that the group has interceded in a House race this cycle.

{mosads}The 30-second ad from Priorities USA shows Trump saying he “loves war in a certain way,” mocking a disabled reporter and making lewd comments about women in a 2005 recording.

“Send me back to Congress, and you send Donald Trump to the White House,” Blum says in the ad after the series of Trump clips.

“Donald Trump said he ‘loves war,’ mocked the disabled and even bragged about committing sexual assault, but despite all that Congressman Rod Blum is still supporting him, even going so far as to attack Republicans who speak out against Trump,” Priorities executive director Anne Caprara said in a statement.

Blum’s campaign hit back at the ad.

“Hillary Clinton knows our opponent will be a rubber stamp for her entire agenda, so it’s no surprise her Super PAC is trying to buy this election so she can have a politician in this seat who reports to party bosses instead of the people of Eastern Iowa,” Daniel Sunne, a spokesman for Blum, said in a statement on Thursday.

The ad was first reported by The Washington Post.

Priorities USA has targeted Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Pat Toomey (Pa.), two of the most vulnerable Republicans this cycle, but until now it has not struck blows against any House candidate.

According to Priorities, the ad will air in the Cedar Rapids media market, which is part of Blum’s congressional district.
