Poll: Spitzer, Weiner lead in respective NYC races

{mosads}Weiner resigned in 2011 after it was discovered he had sent women lewd photographs on the social media network Twitter.

“Notoriety has earned the ‘Tabloid Twins,’ former Gov. Eliot Spitzer as Client 9 and former Congressman Anthony (Tweets) Weiner, good initial numbers in the polls,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, in a statement. “Whether those numbers hold up in the real poll on Primary Election Day is the big question.”

Both candidates are driven by support among black voters. Weiner holds a 15-point advantage over Quinn among blacks, while Spitzer leads Stringer 61-26 percent among blacks.

The survey also showed Democratic primary voters were forgiving of sexual misconduct relative to other potential offenses by an elected official. Asked which was worse — sexual misconduct or financial impropriety — the latter prevailed 69-22 percent.

The Democratic primary will be held on September 10. The poll carried a 3.6 percent margin of error.
