OFA wades into shutdown fight with nationwide ad

{mosads}The ad also foreshadows the coming fight over the debt ceiling and warns that “Tea Party Republicans are threatening an economic shutdown.”

The ad features clips of Republican lawmakers downplaying the effects of the shutdown as a narrator calls it “irresponsible,” “reckless” and “destructive.”

“The government shutdown is hurting veterans, seniors and our kids. Now Tea Party Republicans are threatening an economic shutdown — refusing to pay our nation’s bills, endangering American jobs,” a narrator says.

The ad closes with a shot of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as the narrator implores: “Tell them to stand up to the Tea Party. Enough already.”

It’s the first on-air foray into the shutdown fight from President Obama’s advocacy arm, and it comes as a series of polls have shown Republicans taking blame for the shutdown as it stretches into its second week.
