Biden: Romney wants Hispanics ‘to show your papers,’ but ‘won’t show his’

Vice President Biden is expected to swipe at Mitt Romney on Tuesday by telling a Hispanic audience that the presumptive Republican nominee wants “you to show your papers, but he won’t show us his.”

Biden is expected to tell the National Council of La Raza that a Romney presidency would be “devastating” for the Hispanic community, according to excerpts released of the prepared remarks.

{mosads}The vice president is expected to hammer Romney for not being forthcoming with his income tax records, contrasting the Republican with his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney.

“When his father, George Romney, was a candidate for President in 1968, he released 12 years of tax returns because, as he said, ‘One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show,’ ” Biden is expected to say. “His son has released one year of his tax returns.”

“Making a lie of the old adage: Like father, like son,” Biden added. “Mitt Romney wants you to show your papers, but he won’t show us his.”

During his speech, Biden is expected to also touch upon the tax-cut debate, telling the crowd that Romney’s idea of tax reform is to maintain the Bush-era tax cut for the “very wealthy.”

The vice president is expected to talk about the Republican budget, which he says will strike 200,000 students from the Head Start program, 19 million off Medicaid and millions from supplemental nutrition programs.

“The impact on the Hispanic community would be devastating — and the effects would last a generation,” he is expected to say. “And he says the president is out of touch?”
