Hillary Clinton joked to Jon Stewart she prefers a “home office” and preferably one with “fewer corners,” but didn’t fulfill the late night host’s promise she would “publicly and definitively” declare her presidential candidacy during an interview on “The Daily Show” on Tuesday.
“I think I speak for everybody when I say nobody cares; they just want to know if you are running for president,” Stewart joked as the pair discussed Clinton’s memoir, Hard Choices about her years as secretary of State.
{mosads}Clinton said she had intended “to make an announcement” but Stewart’s introduction “spoiled it for me.”
“I think I’ll just reconsider where I go do it,” Clinton joked.
The former first lady did marvel “at what a cottage industry” the press attention surrounding her potential run has become.
“I think a lot of people would lose their jobs if it stopped,” she said.
The pair also discussed the ongoing violence in Gaza, with Clinton expressing sympathy for the people there “trapped” by Hamas.
“They are trapped first and foremost by leadership that doesn’t really want to make the situation too much better because that gives them a lot of leverage over the poor people in Gaza,” Clinton said.
“Unless we can give people enough of a sense of security on both sides that they will be better off, and their children are going to be better off, then the guys with the guns can always disrupt anything,” she added.
But Clinton said the Israelis were “absolutely right in saying that they can’t just sit there and let rockets rain down.”
“They have a missile defense which is working well, but that can’t be certain, and now there are drones apparently that are being launched from Gaza,” she said.
