Christie headed back to Iowa

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) will travel to Iowa later this week, drawing increased attention to a potential 2016 White House run.

Christie, who was already slated to headline an Oct. 25 birthday party fundraiser for Gov. Terry Branstad’s (R) reelection in Clive, Iowa, will travel to Cedar Rapids on Friday to campaign for Branstad and congressional candidate Rod Blum (R), Branstad’s campaign announced Tuesday.

{mosads}The Republican Governors Association head last traveled to Iowa in July to speak at three fundraisers, including one for the RGA. His position with the association has allowed him to campaign for fellow Republicans across the country as he weighs a White House bid.

This is the New Jersey governor’s first trip to Iowa since a New York NBC affiliate report earlier this month said that federal prosecutors found no evidence linking Christie to 2013 lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

Fellow potential Republican presidential candidate Texas Gov. Rick Perry has traveled to the state recently and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul will head to the HawkEye state in late October to campaign for Blum and other Republicans.
