O’Malley says it’s ‘important’ that secretary of State uses government email
Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), who is considering running for the Democratic nomination for president, said Thursday that it would be “important” for his secretary of State to use an official email server if he were in the White House
{mosads}His comments come amid continuing scrutiny of Hillary Clinton’s decision to use her personal account for official business while at the State Department. She maintained her email account on a server set up at her New York home.
“Sure, it would be important to me,” O’Malley said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” when asked whether his secretary of State should use an official email server.
But he largely demurred from addressing the controversy over Clinton’s emails.
Clinton spoke on Tuesday about the account but raised more questions with her announcement that she had deleted all of the emails that she had not turned over to the State Department for review.
“I don’t feel compelled to answer that,” he said, when asked if Clinton had done anything wrong. “Secretary Clinton is perfectly capable of defending her own service in office.”
O’Malley also addressed the fact that he is flagging far behind Clinton, the presumptive 2016 Democratic front-runner, in the polls.
“Most years, there’s the inevitable front-runner, and that inevitable front-runner is inevitable right up until he or she is no longer inevitable,” he said.
