Likely Dem rival: Clinton had ‘precious few’ State accomplishments

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, who is mulling a Democratic presidential bid in 2016, is attempting to cast doubt on Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy credentials.

{mosads}”What kind of accomplishments did you have? There were precious few,” Chafee said of Clinton’s tenure as secretary of State while on CNN’s “State of the Union,” hours before her much-anticipated presidential announcement Sunday.

Chafee also dinged Clinton’s decision to vote to go to war in Iraq, something that plagued her during her 2008 presidential campaign against then-Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.).

“There was an age of lasting peace ahead of us if we made good decisions, particularly after Sept. 11,” said Chafee, who served as a Republican senator from 1999t to 2007 before becoming an independent then a Democrat in 2013.

“She didn’t do her homework, and we live with the ramifications today,” he added. “If you show lack of judgment, lack of doing your homework then, what can we expect in the future?”

“It’s a big motivator for why I’m running,” said Chafee, who said he is now “very comfortable” as a Democrat.

Chafee suggested at multiple times in the interview that he was intent on running, in addition to currently having an exploratory committee.

“Yes, I want to be there in November, December and January on the stage debating these issues,” Chafee said.

Meanwhile, Chafee described Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as a “prophet” about challenges facing the middle class and made no attempt to hide his desire to gain support among her followers, who have tried lure her into the 2016 race.

“I would like to have Sen. Warren’s support and her legion of followers,” Chafee said.
