Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Tuesday compared the communication skills of 2016 Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump to those of President Obama.
“People are sick and tired of professional politicians. Donald is not a professional politician. He’s a self-made man,” Giuliani said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
{mosads}“He’s a tremendous, tremendous communicator — like Obama, like Reagan, like Clinton. He’s a tremendous communicator,” Giuliani said.
Giuliani, who made waves earlier this year for questioning whether Obama loves America and recently blasted the president’s push for a nuclear deal with Iran, acknowledged Trump has his weaknesses.
Giuliani said the celebrity real estate tycoon’s lack of political experience was also among his greatest hurdles, as well as his inexperience on the debate stage ahead of a prime-time event Thursday.
A pair of national polls out Tuesday show the businessman leading the field of 17 GOP candidates by double digits heading into the Republican Party’s first sanctioned debate in Cleveland.
Giuliani said that Trump’s odds of winning the GOP nomination are “about as good as anybody right now,” noting that he thought New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could also see a jump in the polls.
