Clinton plans first 2016 stop in Wisconsin
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton is making her first 2016 campaign stop in Wisconsin next month.
Clinton is planning a fundraiser and a public campaign event in Milwaukee on Sept. 10, according to The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
“[It is] an effort to continue building for primary states beyond the early four,” a campaign official told the paper on Friday.
{mosads}“[Clinton] will lay out the case of her campaign and ask people to get directly involved.”
The Clinton staffer said her campaign will release additional details on the trip at a later time, the Journal-Sentinel added.
Clinton’s scheduled Badger State appearance follows her campaign’s efforts in the four early-voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. Iowa kicks off the nominating contest, with its Feb. 1 caucus.
Wisconsin voters hold their primary on April 5.
Clinton’s visit takes her to the home state of GOP contender Gov. Scott Walker.
Her trip also follows a rally for Democratic primary rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Madison, Wis., last month, which drew 10,000 supporters.
Multiple national polls show that Sanders is chipping away at her lead for their party’s nomination amid voter concerns over the former secretary of State’s honesty and transparency over her use of a private email server.
Clinton announced on Tuesday that she is turning over the private email server and its backup thumb drive to Justice Department investigators. She has come under fire for possibly storing sensitive intelligence on the personal device despite national security risks.
Republican hopefuls say she jeopardized U.S. secrets by storing her State communications on a private device.
But Clinton’s campaign has denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the allegations as “nonsense.”
