Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is promising to level the playing field for the middle class in a new campaign ad released on Tuesday.
{mosads}“When you see that you’ve got CEOs making 300 times what the average worker is making, the deck is stacked in favor of those at the top,” Clinton says in the clip.
“I want it to be back where it was when I came of age, where my mom, who never got to go to college, could see her daughter go to law school,” she says over photographs of her family and her law school graduation.
“We need to have people believing that their work will be rewarded,” Clinton adds. “I’m going to do everything I can to get that deck reshuffled so that being middle class means something again.”
Clinton’s latest ad continues her campaign theme that she is a champion for everyday Americans.
She is watching her standing erode in multiple national polls, however, amid controversy over her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of State.
Clinton defended herself during a combative press conference in Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon.
“What I did was legally permitted, number one, first and foremost,” she said. “We turned over everything that was work-related, every single thing.”
“I regret that this has become a cause célèbre,” Clinton added. “But that does not change the facts, and no matter what anybody tries to say, the facts are the facts.”
Clinton turned over personal storage device and its backup thumb drive to Justice Department investigators last week.
Critics say that Clinton’s private device may have jeopardized national security and obscured her record there.
She has countered that the attacks against her are politically motivated, given she is the heavy favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination next year.
