Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey said on Sunday that the investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s private email server is not partisan.
{mosads}Mukasey added that the probe is justified, given the impact she had on national security as secretary of State.
“No, it is not a political witch hunt,” Mukasey said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“It is inconceivable to me that a great deal of that was not classified,” Mukasey said of Clinton’s State Department communications. “The question is what she knew about what was on those emails.”
Mukasey also rejected claims that investigations like the FBI’s are more concerned with Clinton’s private storage device than the former first lady herself.
“The FBI does not investigate machines — it investigates people,” he said. “She is certainly one of the people being investigated.”
“My confidence level in both the Justice Department investigation and the FBI’s are very high,” said the 81st attorney general, under former President George W. Bush.
“The FBI of course is the premier investigative agency within the United States for civilian investigations,” Mukasey added. “They have a long history of impartial investigations.”
