Jerry Brown: I ‘don’t know’ if Hillary is nominee

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) said he isn’t sure whether Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee for president next year, in an interview that appeared Sunday. 

“I’ve been around politics long enough to know that things are uncertain,” Brown said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

{mosads}“I don’t know,” Brown added, after saying that Clinton needed to do more to put to rest the email issues swirling around her campaign. “I think she’s a good person. She’s got a lot of experience.”

Vice President Biden has reportedly been considering his own run for the White House next year because of the questions surrounding Clinton’s use of a private email server when she was secretary of State. The 77-year-old Brown has also been talked up as a potential 2016 candidate but has declined to run.

Brown did say in the Sunday interview that if he were Biden, he would give “very serious consideration” to running for president. He added that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has drawn big crowds with his economic populist message, was running a presidential campaign similar to his own from almost a quarter century ago.

“I see the similarity that he’s running as the critic of the status quo,” said Brown, who lost the Democratic bid to Bill Clinton in 1992.

Brown said that the anxiety that voters feel right now “means there’s always an opening for the critic, the outsider.”
