Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) slammed fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday, saying the real estate magnate has “declared bankruptcy more than any major corporation in America in the last 30 years.”
{mosads}“Donald Trump has got a unique platform to run for president,” he told host Martha MacCallum on Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom.”
“Maybe it makes sense,” the 2016 Republican White House hopeful added. “Maybe sending the nation’s leading expert in bankruptcy is a natural fit for Washington, D.C.
“Bankruptcy is having more debt than you can afford to pay back,” Jindal said. “That describes Washington.
“They’re always on the verge of bankruptcy and they’re always spending more money than they have,” the Louisiana governor added.
Jindal’s remarks are the latest in his campaign against Trump.
Jindal discredited the outspoken billionaire’s 2016 campaign during a scathing address at the National Press Club in Washington last week.
“Donald Trump is not a serious candidate. He’s a narcissist, he’s an egomaniac,” Jindal said on Sept. 10.
“The only thing he believes in is himself,” he said of Trump. “Everybody knows this is true.
“He’s afraid of being exposed,” Jindal added. “That’s why he tells us, always and constantly, how big and strong and wealthy he is.”
Trump dismissed those comments in a tweet, saying he only responds to “people that register more than 1 percent in the polls,” dismissing Jindal’s voter support nationwide.
“I never thought he had a chance and I’ve been proven right,” Trump added.
The real estate magnate leads the race for next year’s GOP presidential nomination with 30.4 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of national samplings.
Jindal, meanwhile, ranks 14th of 15 Republican contenders with less than 1 percent voter support nationwide.
