O’Malley at 4 percent in home state poll

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is heading into the first Democratic presidential debate with single-digit support in his home state, according to a new poll.

A Washington Post/University of Maryland poll released Monday finds O’Malley with just 4 percent support one day before the debate in Las Vegas.

{mosads}Former secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads with 43 percent support, followed by Vice President Biden at 26 percent and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at 20 percent.

Clinton, the front-runner, will be flanked by Sanders and O’Malley at Tuesday’s debate. Biden is still mulling a bid and isn’t expected at the event.

Former Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) and former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (D), who are also slated to appear on stage, get 1 percent and less than 1 percent support, respectively.

Another poll released last week from Goucher College similarly found O’Malley trailing Clinton, Biden and Sanders by wide margins.

An October 2014 poll from the Post found O’Malley had 3 percent support in Maryland.

Clinton’s support in Maryland, meanwhile, has dropped 20 points from a year ago, according to Post polling, while Biden and Sanders have each gained 17 points since then.

The newest survey of 490 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independent voters was conducted Oct. 8-11 via landlines and cellphones. It has a margin of error of 5 points.
