Rubio plays fantasy football with debate

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) spoofed several of his fellow GOP presidential rivals Wednesday in an online video skit about fantasy football.

Rubio lampooned former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson during the clip.

{mosads}“What’s the latest on Cruz?” he asks on the phone. “Is he in or is he out? I’m seeing reports here that say both.

“What about Bush?” he then ponders. “He’s been kind of quiet this year but you can never know with this guy.”

“You think we should look at who? Carson?” Rubio additionally wonders. “Look, I know he started the year as a sleeper but he’s really thrown the ball around lately pretty good.”

Rubio’s new sketch toys with viewers’ expectations before Wednesday night’s third GOP presidential debate in Boulder, Colo.

“I know I have a debate, but I’ve got to get this fantasy football thing right,” Rubio quips in the clip.

The skit then reveals that Rubio is actually referring to various professional football players rather than GOP presidential candidates.

“Victor Cruz, Reggie Bush and Carson Palmer — let’s keep an eye on all those guys,” Rubio tells the listener on his phone call.

All three players are currently active in the NFL. Cruz is a New York Giants wide receiver, while Bush is a running back for the San Francisco 49ers. Palmer is the Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback.

Rubio trails Carson in the race for next year’s GOP presidential coronation but currently ranks higher than Cruz and Bush.

He is presently third out of 15 candidates for their party’s 2016 nomination, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of samplings.
