Huckabee to Carson: ‘Pal, you ain’t seen nothing yet’

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) on Monday predicted that fellow GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson will face even harsher media scrutiny.

“I’m not going to get arguing what Ben did or didn’t do, but the one thing I heard him say that I was kind of taken aback [by was] when he said that people are looking into his personal life and they are going after them,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

{mosads}“I’m thinking, ‘Pal, you ain’t seen nothing yet,’ ” Huckabee said of Carson. “They have not yet come after your kids and the rest of your family — they will.

“This is part of the process,” the 2016 Republican White House hopeful added. “This ain’t bean bag, as they say. It is a brutal process. I’ve been through it for 26 years and life ain’t fair, I’m telling you.”

Carson is publicly lambasting journalists for questioning accounts of his past. At issue is whether the retired neurosurgeon had a violent youth or received a full scholarship to West Point, both chronicled in his autobiography “Gifted Hands.”

Huckabee said Monday that he lacks the violent past that Carson has chronicled.

“I never hit my mother with a hammer and I never stabbed anyone either,” he said, referencing Carson’s claims. “Never wrote about it either, so there you go. At least I’m out there on the record for that.”

Huckabee also defended the moral character of Donald Trump, citing the billionaire’s strong family life.

“I look at the relationship he has with his kids,” he said when asked about Trump’s character. “To me that’s always a barometer of what kind of person one is.

“If you have adult children who have turned out well, who are responsible, respectful, who are successful in their own right and who love their father, you have to say the guy’s done something right,” the former Arkansas governor added. “To question whether he has the moral character, I don’t question that.”

Huckabee focused on experience, however, as Republican voters gravitate toward outsider presidential candidates such as Carson and Trump this election cycle.

“I think the presidency is above an entry-level job,” Huckabee said. “Look, would you get on an airplane with someone who had never been in a cockpit before? My guess is no. You want someone who is at least on something of a semblance of this job because you know that it’s going to be a tough one and we don’t elect a president because of what he promises or what speeches he makes.”
