Cruz jokes about his ‘Rick Perry’ moment

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is making light of his struggle during the latest GOP debate to list all of the federal agencies he would eliminate as president.

“Look, I just think the Department of Commerce is such a base of cronyism, we need to eliminate it twice,” Cruz joked during a post-debate appearance on Fox News’s “The Kelly File.”

{mosads}Cruz struggled to list the five agencies he would eliminate as president during the Republican debate Tuesday night, listing the Department of Commerce twice.

“Five major agencies that I would eliminate: the IRS, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, uh, the Department of Commerce and HUD,” Cruz said.

Many political observers compared the segment to a similar moment from then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s disastrous “oops” moment during a GOP debate in the 2012 presidential election.
Unlike Perry’s highly publicized moment, however, Cruz did not allow for any pregnant pauses amid his hesitation in the prime-time debate segment, quickly carrying on with other points.

Cruz told host Megyn Kelly that the fifth agency he would eliminate is the Department of Education.
