Trump: ‘I have lost weight because my events are so exciting’
Donald Trump says his campaign for the GOP’s 2016 presidential nomination is burning some calories.
“I have lost weight because my events are so exciting,” he said Tuesday, according to People.
{mosads}“When I’m done I don’t I want to eat,” Trump continued. “I have actually lost 15 pounds on the campaign trail.
“I could see how it could go the other way for some people,” he added in a shot at his presidential rivals. “That’s only because their events are boring.”
Trump said the energy of his large crowds is helping him slim down.
“I never thought about it, but speaking is almost a form of exercise,” the outspoken billionaire said.
“It’s very exhilarating,” Trump said. “When you speak and you’re really going at it, you tend to get so worked up [that] you don’t feel like eating after that.”
Trump, 69, admitted he munched on junk food too often due to the frantic schedule he maintains.
“There’s so little time to be eating,” he said. “I tend to just be able to eat snacks because it’s so busy and there are so many people and so much hoopla everywhere I go.”
Trump listed chips and candy as two snacks he consumes with more frequency than he should.
“It’s not the healthiest of eating,” he said. “It’s stuff I wouldn’t necessarily recommend. It’s grabbing anything you can find.”
Trump has repeatedly drawn large crowds since formally launching his presidential campaign last June. He told People magazine that an event in Knoxville, Tenn., drew 12,000 people Monday evening.
His bombastic rhetoric and politically incorrect tone have also helped fuel his rise across national polls.
He leads the race for next year’s GOP presidential coronation by 1 point, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.
Trump has frequently criticized Republican rivals like retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) as “low-energy.”
Bush has also shed weight on the campaign trail this year, by practicing the Paleo diet. The former Florida governor avoids foods that were unavailable before the invention of farming.
