More than 100,000 sign petition to ban Trump from UK

A petition calling for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump to be banned from entering the United Kingdom has surpassed 100,000 signatures, meaning Parliament must consider debating the issue.

{mosads}The petition posted on Parliament’s website Tuesday had more than 130,000 signatures by early Wednesday morning, putting the issue up for debate.

It says that the “UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech” and argues the same criteria should be “fairly applied to the rich as well as the poor, and the weak as well as the powerful.”

The petition follows Trump’s call to bar Muslims, except U.S. citizens abroad, from entering the United States after a shooting last week in San Bernardino, Calif., that has been linked to terrorism.

Trump’s proposal drew near universal condemnation from Republicans and Democrats on Tuesday, as well as from foreign leaders including British Prime Minister David Cameron, who called it “divisive” and “unhelpful.”
