The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is calling on Donald Trump to end his presidential campaign.
The group argues that Trump’s call for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States proves he is not fit to lead the country.
{mosads}“With the enormity of the challenges we face as a nation, it is imperative that Trump end his campaign,” ADC President Samer Khalaf said in a statementl. “His words have led to violent acts of hate, and it is clear that he is not good for the country.
“As put by the White House — Trump’s plan to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. disqualifies him from being president. It is time for Trump to do the nation a favor and drop out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination.”
ADC Board Chairman Dr. Safa Rifka praised public figures who had rejected Trump’s suggestion earlier this month.
“It is clear that Trump is unfit to be the president of the United States,” Rifka said. “We welcome the voices from within the Republican Party who have spoken against Trump and his bigotry.
“These voices have made one thing clear — Donald Trump does not have what it takes to lead America on a global scale. He needs to do the right thing and drop out of this race.”
The billionaire businessman’s call for the ban has been popular with supporters on the campaign stump, and polls have shown more Republican primary voters approve of it than disapprove.
The rest of the White House field, however, opposes the ban, and Trump was criticized by GOP leaders including Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
Trump remains the Republican front-runner, commanding a 13-point lead over his competition across multiple national polls.
The ADC is a “civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting their rich cultural heritage,” according to the organization’s website. It was founded by former Sen. James Abourezk (D-S.D.) in 1980 and opposes “racism and bigotry in any form.”
