A spokesperson for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign says the Democratic candidate was completely justified to say the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is using Republican front-runner Donald Trump to attract potential recruits.
“What Secretary Clinton was saying last night is that one of the many dangerous things about Donald Trump is that his rhetoric saying we should not allow Muslim refugees is being used, and this is something that the international group who monitors social media on ISIS has said,” Jennifer Palmieri said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
{mosads}After host George Stephanopoulos pushed back that there is no video evidence of the terrorist group using Trump to recruit members, Palmieri said he was being used on social media.
“Well, what they have said is that they are using him,” she said. “He’s being used in social media by ISIS as propaganda.”
She added that Clinton “did not have a particular video in mind” when she made the claim at Saturday night’s Democratic primary debate.
Clinton claimed at the contest that Trump is “ISIS’s best recruiter,” adding that the terrorist group is “going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit radical jihadists.”
Trump said earlier in the show that Clinton “made it up.”
