Rubio: Clinton ‘clueless’ on fighting ISIS
President Obama and Hillary Clinton are “clueless” when it comes to foriegn policy and countering the threat from terrorism, Marco Rubio said Monday.
The Florida senator and GOP presidential candidate said during an appearance on “Fox and Friends” that “government in Washington and particularly the Democratic Party is completely out of touch with reality.”
{mosads}”The vast majority of Americans understand that this threat is not under control, in fact it continues to grow in both scope and sophistication,” Rubio said, referring to the threat of terrorism.
Rubio was responding to Clinton’s remark in the Democratic debate on Saturday that “we now finally are where we need to be” when it comes to having a strategy against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“It’s just another example of how out of touch they are and how clueless they are and quite frankly how dangerous their foreign policy has become for the national security of this country,” Rubio said.
Rubio has generally placed third behind real estate tycoon Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) in recent polling of the Republican race and has sought to emphasize national security ahead of the first ballots being cast in February.
Obama suggested during an interview released by NPR on Monday that the media was partly to blame for stoked fears of terrorism, though he acknowledged he could have worked to better inform the public about his administration’s response to ISIS.
“We haven’t, you know, on a regular basis I think described all the work that we’ve been doing for more than a year now to defeat ISIL,” Obama said, using an alternate acronym for the militant group.
“When they see a president so out of touch, it makes them more scared, not less scared,” Rubio shot back Monday on Fox.
