Cruz releases mother’s birth certificate

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has released the birth certificate of his mother after days of growing chatter from fellow GOP candidate Donald Trump, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and the White House about his citizenship.

The Cruz campaign on Friday gave the birth certificate to Breitbart News in an effort to squash criticism that he is ineligible to run for president because he was born in Canada. 

{mosads}Cruz has argued that his mother’s U.S. citizenship makes him a citizen and thus constitutionally eligible to be president. 

The birth certificate, according to Breitbart, shows Eleanor Darragh, mother of Cruz, was born in Delaware on Nov. 23, 1934. 

Trump, the GOP front-runner, has repeatedly brought up Cruz being born in Canada, saying it could become a problem for the senator. 

McCain has suggested that Cruz’s eligibility to run for president is “worth looking into.” 

White House press secretary Josh Earnest added fuel to the fire on Wednesday, saying that “it would be quite ironic” if, after years of questions surrounding President Obama’s citizenship, Republican voters were to choose Cruz as their nominee.
