Less than three weeks before the New Hampshire primary election, Donald Trump leads his nearest competitor by 20 points, according to a CNN/WMUR poll released on Wednesday.
{mosads}The billionaire businessman tops the Republican presidential field, with 34 percent support, followed by Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), with 14 percent, and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, each with 10 percent.
A trio ties for fifth in the poll, with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) each receiving 6 percent support, followed by business executive Carly Fiorina, with 4 percent support.
Cruz was the poll’s biggest climber, more than doubling his support, from 6 percent to 14 percent, in just one month.
Despite Trump’s overwhelming lead, the poll suggests plenty of volatility remains heading into the Feb. 9 primary.
Just 31 percent of the likely Republican voters surveyed said they had made up their minds about whom they will support.
Trump, however, is seen as the best candidate on two top issues: the economy and the escalating fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Nearly half, 48 percent, of respondents said Trump is the candidate who can best handle the economy, and 32 percent said he would be the best commander in chief against ISIS.
The CNN/WMUR poll surveyed 413 likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters Jan. 13–18 with a margin of error of 4.8 percentage points.
