HuffPost adds note calling Trump ‘racist’ to its stories

The Huffington Post is adding a note to all of its stories about Donald Trump, calling the GOP front-runner a “racist” and “serial liar.”

“Note to our readers: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.,” the note reads.

{mosads}A Huffington Post representative shared the note with The Hill Thursday and confirmed it would be published with all Trump stories.

“Yes, we’re planning to add this note to all future stories about Trump,” the representative said in a statement. “No other candidate has called for banning 1.6 billion people from the country. If any other candidate makes such a proposal, we’ll append a note under pieces about them.”

The note was first reported Thursday by Politico, which said it initially appeared in a Huffington Post article published Wednesday night.

That story detailed Trump’s fiery Wednesday interview with Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly.

The kicker also includes links detailing Trump’s controversial past remarks on the 9/11 terrorist attacks, women and other topics.

It’s not the first time The Huffington Post has made news over its coverage of Trump.

The news organization announced last year that it planned on covering his campaign in its entertainment section.

“Our reason is simple: Trump’s campaign is a sideshow,” it said in a blog post.

Editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington reversed course last month following Trump’s call for a ban on any Muslims entering the U.S.

“On the heels of Donald Trump’s proposed change for America, we will be changing how we cover him at the Huffington Post,” she wrote on Dec. 7, 2015.

“We believe that the way we cover the campaign should reflect this shift. And part of this involves never failing to remind our audience who Trump is and what his campaign really represents.”
