Mike Huckabee’s daughter and former campaign manager has joined Donald Trump’s presidential campaign as a senior adviser.
“I volunteered to join Mr. Trump’s campaign because he is a champion of working families; not Washington-Wall Street elites,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement released by Trump’s campaign.
{mosads}”Like the other Republican candidates, Mr. Trump is pro-life, pro-marriage, and will appoint conservatives to the courts. What makes Mr. Trump my choice for president is he will break the grip of the donor class on our government and make it accountable to working families again.”
Huckabee Sanders ran her father’s 2016 presidential campaign until he dropped out of the race at the beginning of the month; she was his national political director in 2008.
Huckabee hasn’t endorsed a candidate since he dropped his bid after a disappointing showing in Iowa. But Trump noted in his statement that he has “great respect for Governor Mike Huckabee and we have a mutual admiration for our wonderful families.”
The former Arkansas governor did join Trump at his pro-veterans rally in Iowa, held after the GOP front-runner chose to skip that night’s Fox News debate just a few miles away. That day, Huckabee appeared to be warming up to Trump, as he suggested he’d side with him over Ted Cruz if necessary.
