Le Pen, far-right French politician, says he’d choose Trump

French politician Jean-Marie Le Pen said he would vote for Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump if he could.

{mosads}Le Pen, who led the far-right National Front party in France for almost 40 years, tweeted Saturday in French: “If I was American, I would vote for Donald Trump…May God protect him!”

Trump’s politics have often been compared movements like Le Pen’s – the French politician’s rhetoric contains similar anti-immigration and populist overtures to those that have defined the real estate mogul’s platform.

And like Trump, Le Pen has a history of making divisive, racially charged comments. Le Pen was ousted from his party in 2011 after repeatedly denying the Holocaust.

Le Pen’s daughter, Marine Le Pen, is the current president of the National Front and ran for president of France in 2012.
