Gawker is claiming it’s behind the Twitter account Donald Trump retweeted attributing a Benito Mussolini quote to the Republican front-runner.
{mosads}“[L]ast year, Gawker’s Ashley Feinberg created a Twitter bot that would post quotes from the writings and speeches of the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, but with all of them attributed to the businessman and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump,” Gawker wrote in a post on Sunday.
Gawker also detailed how it set the “trap” for Trump.
“We came up with the idea for that Mussolini bot under the assumption that Trump would retweet just about anything, no matter how dubious or vile the source, as long as it sounded like praise for himself.”
The account has tweeted at Trump multiple times a day since December.
On Sunday morning, Trump retweeted the quote: “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.”
