Marco Rubio is praising Ted Cruz as the only true conservative left in the Republican presidential race in a conference call with supporters in Minnesota on Wednesday.
According to a report by the Twin Cities Press, the Florida senator lauded his former rival as “the only conservative left in the race” during a conference call with Minnesota supporters on Wednesday. Rubio stopped short of an endorsement, however.
{mosads}In the call, Rubio, who dropped out of the race on Tuesday, blamed the media for many of his failings, according to the Twin Cities Press.
“This election was entirely driven by national media coverage, in many ways,” Rubio said. “When the media narrative goes negative on you, and all the news is bad, it kind of knocks us off.”
Rubio’s win in the Minnesota caucuses was his only on Super Tuesday. He said that’s when his campaign “saw the bottom fall out.”
“The media kind of just said, ‘Marco Rubio had a terrible night, and it looks like the strongest anti-Trump alternative is Ted Cruz,'” Rubio said.
“When the media is constantly telling you, ‘so-and-so is winning and so-and-so is losing,’ it impacts voters,” he added.
Rubio said his campaign’s internal polling showed him “closing fast” on Trump in the final days before Tuesday’s primary in his home state of Florida, but that the “drip, drip, drip of ‘Rubio’s losing’ in the media” led to his blowout loss.
