Priebus warns of ‘consequences’ to Trump’s talk of independent bid

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said on Sunday that comments made by Donald Trump noting he’s open to an independent presidential bid may make it more difficult for the Republican front-runner to secure the nomination.

“Those kinds of comments, I think, have consequences,” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week.”

{mosads}”And so when you make those kinds of comments, and you want people to fall in line for you, it makes it more difficult.”

Trump said an interview that aired Sunday morning he wouldn’t rule out a run as a third-party candidate if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination, noting it’s a “question of treatment.”

Priebus compared the presidential race on Sunday to running for president of the Kiwanis Club or the Boy Scouts.

“If you were running for president of the Kiwanis Club or the Boy Scouts and you said you don’t know if you like the Kiwanis or the Boy Scouts, I think that makes your challenge even greater to — to ultimately win those kinds of posts,” Priebus said.

“It’s not different for the Republican Party.”
