Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is 5 points ahead of Donald Trump in Wisconsin the day before its GOP primary, according to a new poll.

Cruz leads Trump 40 percent to the billionaire’s 35 percent in the Emerson College Polling Society survey released Monday.

{mosads}Pollsters also found that Trump is struggling with his popularity among Wisconsin’s likely GOP presidential primary voters.

Forty-three percent have a favorable view of Trump, compared to 53 percent who view him unfavorably.

Cruz is viewed more kindly, notching a 58 percent favorable rating and a 38 percent unfavorable rating.

Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) earns a 69 percent favorable rating and a 24 percent unfavorable rating.

Monday’s results show a tighter race in Wisconsin after a Fox Business survey released last week had Cruz boasting a 10-point lead over Trump there.

A CBS News Battleground Tracker poll released Sunday, meanwhile, found Cruz leading Trump by 6 points.

The poll found Wisconsin voters are split over whether there should be a brokered GOP convention to decide the nomination.

Fifty percent support the front-runner getting the Republican nomination, while 50 percent support a brokered convention.

The Emerson College Polling Society conducted its latest sampling of 549 likely GOP presidential primary voters in Wisconsin via telephone interviews from March 30 to April 3. It has a 4.1 percent margin of error.
