Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton holds a double-digit lead over rival Bernie Sanders in Maryland, a new poll found Tuesday.
{mosads}A new Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey found that Clinton leading Sanders by 25 points, 58 percent to 33 percent.
The former secretary of State wins overwhelming support from African-Americans voters, who make up 40 percent of Maryland’s Democratic primary electorate, 70 percent to 25 percent. She also leads the Vermont senator among white voters and those under age 45, but by smaller margins.
The Tuesday survey falls in line with other recent polls showing Clinton maintaining a comfortable margin. A new Washington Post/University of Maryland poll from last week found her with a 15-point lead.
“The only question in Maryland on the Democratic side is the margin,” Dean Debnam, president of PPP, said in a statement. “A closed primary state with a large black population is about as tailor made for Hillary Clinton as it could possibly be.”
Both Clinton and Sanders lead in general election match-ups among all three GOP candidates.
The poll was conducted from April 15 to 17 and surveyed 879 voters including 492 likely Democratic primary voters via phone and online. The overall margin of error was 3.3 percentage points, and the margin of error for the Democratic sample was 4.4 percentage points.
