Hillary Clinton’s staff has ordered three bottles of hot sauce for her New York headquarters, a new report says, days after the presidential candidate admitted to being such a fan she carries the condiment in her purse.
An aide for the Democratic presidential front-runner requested a trio of flavors from The Hot Sauce Boss including spicy honey, guava mango coconut and spicy kush lime, TMZ said Monday.
The Hot Sauce Boss’s website describes the company’s products as “the only healthy hot sauce in the world.”
“[We are] the only hot sauce with low sodium and no vinegar,” it said. “That means no heartburn, no upset stomach, no high blood pressure, no acid reflux.
{mosads}“Why use vinegar as a flavor enhancer when you can use organic limes, guavas, mangoes or honey? The result is the greatest flavors in the history of hot sauce.”
Clinton said last month that she always keeps a bottle of hot sauce handy in her bag when on the campaign trail.
“I think it keeps my immune system strong,” she said on Power 105.1 FM’s “The Breakfast Club” on April 18. “I really do. I think hot sauce is good for you.”
Host Charlamagne Tha God asked if Clinton was angling for African-American voters before New York’s Democratic presidential primary, comparing the former secretary of State’s admission to a lyric from Beyonce’s “Formation.”
“’Hot sauce in my bag, swag?’ he asked. “I want you to know that people are going to see this and say, ‘She’s pandering to black people again.’”
“OK — is it working?” Clinton joked. “Seriously — I’ve been eating a lot of hot sauce and raw peppers.”
Clinton has repeatedly praised the health benefits of eating spicy foods. She says she began eating hot peppers daily during husband Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.
“Maybe [it is] one of the reasons I’m so healthy and I have so much stamina and endurance out there today,” she told NPR last January.
