The GOP Senate campaign arm says in a new ad that Hillary Clinton is Democratic candidates’ “burden to bear” this fall.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee is slamming Clinton as “a living history of scandal, lies and spin” in a video meant to put Democratic senators on the defensive.
{mosads}The ad, slated to run both on television and digital outlets, comes after an onslaught of Democratic attacks aimed at tying presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to vulnerable Senate incumbents.
“Democrat Senate candidates need to ask themselves a question: Can they really support Hillary Clinton?” the clip’s narrator says as flashes of Democratic Senate candidates appear briefly on screen.
Those pictured include challengers Katie McGinty in Pennsylvania, Ted Strickland in Ohio and Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada, and incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.).
The ad ticks through a laundry list of controversies that have dogged Clinton throughout her career — including Whitewater, the Benghazi attacks and the FBI investigation into her use of a private email server while secretary of State.
It also accuses her of “politically attack[ing] sexual harrasment victims” and chides her for falsely asserting she landed under “sniper fire” during a trip to Bosnia.
“Hillary Clinton. She is the living embodiment of everything people hate about politics,” the ad concludes.
“Democrat Senate candidates: She is your burden to bear.”
The video comes after weeks of onslaught from Democrats trying to pin Trump’s controversial rhetoric onto vulnerable Republican senators.
Both Trump and Clinton have historic unfavorable ratings for presidential candidates.
