Kasich not ready to endorse Trump

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) says he’s not ready to endorse Donald Trump for president unless the presumptive GOP nominee adopts values more like his own.

“Unless I see a fundamental change in that approach, it’s really hard for me to do a merger,” he told the Columbus Dispatch in an interview published Tuesday.

He added that he plans to help Republican candidates for the House and Senate.

{mosads}Kasich dropped his own presidential bid following the Indiana primary earlier this month, having won only his home state.

Kasich said last week that he was still undecided about whether he would back Trump, noting he was not endorsing the likely nominee because of Trump’s tone and policy positions.

“I don’t like when he’s attacking, putting people down. You know, learn to take it a little bit,” Kasich said on CNN last week.

But he noted Trump “has a chance to move to the positive side and unify this country.”

Kasich also said last week he was “not inclined” to be Trump’s running mate.

“It would be very hard for me, unless he were to change all of his views and become a uniter, for me to get in the middle of this thing,” he said.
