Sanders fundraising for state-level candidates
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is raising funds for eight candidates running for seats in state legislatures across the U.S.
“Bernie believes that the path toward bold change requires leaders to take back control of state capitols around the country and ensure fair redistricting in 2020,” Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver said in a statement.
{mosads}“The leaders we’re raising money for today are the members of Congress, senators and presidential candidates of tomorrow.”
The Sanders campaign sent an email to supporters Tuesday endorsing the “progressive candidates” and encouraging supporters to split a contribution between Sanders’s presidential campaign and the candidates running in state races.
“For decades, Republicans have been very good at winning elections at the state level, meaning conservative control of state laws and of Congressional districts, as well as a deep bench of Republican legislators who eventually run for Congress, governor, or even president,” the email said.
“Democrats haven’t been as effective. We need that to change.”
The eight candidates are from all across the country, including South Carolina, Wisconsin and Colorado.
Weaver said in a statement the candidates are “standing up against the wealthy interests and biggest corporations, and putting working families first” in their home states.
“Our people-powered campaign is proud to support them,” he said.
