Trump and Ryan to speak by phone

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) plans to talk with Donald Trump by phone Wednesday night, hours after denying reports that he is close to endorsing the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

A Ryan spokesman said the previously scheduled call will be about efforts to unify the party.

{mosads}Ryan denied reports earlier Wednesday that he is close to publicly backing Trump.

“I don’t know where all this got from,” Ryan told reporters in his Capitol Hill office. “Look, I don’t have a timeline in my mind. And I have not made a decision.”

When asked whether he was concerned the Trump campaign is trying to pressure him into an endorsement, the Speaker insisted: “None of that stuff really gets to me.”

Ryan is the only member of House GOP leadership who hasn’t gotten behind Trump. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and GOP Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) have all issued statements in support of the real estate mogul.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has also said he will support Trump for president.
