DNC chair: I’m ‘focused on doing my job’
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) said Wednesday she isn’t distracted by reports that some party members want her replaced as the head of the Democratic National Committee.
{mosads}”I am focused on doing my job,” Wasserman Schultz said, according to Bloomberg. “We are 60 days from the Democratic National Convention, and we are singularly focused on putting on the best political convention America has ever seen, that will launch our eventual nominee to the White House.”
Wasserman Schultz’s comments come shorly after The Hill reported that some Democrats on Capitol Hill want her to step down, worrying that she is too divisive a figure to unify the party.
The DNC chair has had a tense relationship with Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and his supporters, who argue she has tilted the scales in front-runner Hillary Clinton’s favor.
House Democrats rushed to Wasserman Schultz’s defense Wednesday.
“Chairwoman Wasserman Schultz has the respect of her colleagues for her efforts and her leadership to unify the party and to win the election in November,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said.
