Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Wednesday dodged a question about being Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton’s running mate by pivoting to a joke about his diet.
When Clinton was asked about adding Booker to her ticket, Booker responded, “First of all, I’m already her VP — her vegan pal.”
{mosads}Booker announced in 2014 that after more than 20 years as a vegetarian, he would be going vegan.
Former President Bill Clinton — who stopped eating animal products in 2010 after having emergency surgery for chest pains — said in February that going vegan has kept him alive.
“I might not be around if I hadn’t become a vegan. It’s great,” Clinton said.
Booker was campaigning with the former secretary of State on Wednesday. He tweeted a video from Snapchat showing Clinton arrive to the campaign event and greet him.
