Carson: If speeches were similar, it came from shared values

Ben Carson waved off accusations that Melania Trump’s speech Monday night was plagiarized from Michelle Obama, saying that any similarities are a result of common values.

{mosads}“If Melania’s speech is similar to Michelle Obama’s speech, that should make us all very happy because we should be saying, whether we’re Democrats or Republicans, we share the same values,” Carson told reporters Tuesday, according to Politico.

“If we happen to share values, we should celebrate that, not try to make it into a controversy,” he said.

A passage of Melania Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland shared exact words and phrasing with a paragraph from Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Carson has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump’s candidacy since ending his own presidential bid earlier this year.
