A group of gay Republicans is lashing out at their party for “drafting the most anti-LGBT” platform in GOP history through a full-page ad in USA Today.
{mosads}“Losers! Morons! Sad!” reads the ad placed by the Log Cabin Republicans. “No, these aren’t tweets from Donald Trump. This is what common-sense conservatives are saying about the most anti-LGBT platform the Republican Party has ever had.”
Last week, the GOP delegates engaged in heated debate over including pro-gay rights language in this year’s platform.
The platform committee blocked an amendment that would acknowledge growing support for gay marriage and “welcome a thoughtful conversation among Republicans about the meaning and importance of marriage and to commit to respect for all families.”
Log Cabin President Gregory T. Angelo touted the donations his group has seen in the wake of the platform fight, saying that it shows there is broad support within the party for a more liberal stance on the issue.
“It’s my hope this advertisement will be a wake-up call to the intransigent and ancient voices on the GOP Platform Committee that marriage equality is the law of the land, gay families are a part of the fabric of America, and LGBT Republicans have an important role to play in growing the Party,” Angelo said in a statement.
