Trump’s acceptance speech longest in recent history

CLEVELAND — Donald Trump’s nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland ran longer than any acceptance address in the modern era.

{mosads}Trump’s marathon address clocked in at nearly 76 minutes, eclipsing Bill Clinton’s 64-minute acceptance speech in 1996, according to an analysis by C-SPAN.

That makes it the longest since at least 1972.

George W. Bush’s 2004 acceptance speech ran more than 62 minutes. No others have gone on for longer than an hour.

The shortest since 1972 belongs to Democrat George McGovern, who spoke for only 21 minutes and 44 seconds. He lost 49 states to Richard Nixon that year.
