Clinton: Khans heard nothing but ‘insults and degrading comments’ from Trump

Hillary Clinton on Sunday criticized Donald Trump for ridiculing Khizr and Ghazala Khan, whose son, a Muslim U.S. soldier, was killed in combat in Iraq.

{mosads}“Mr. Khan paid the ultimate sacrifice in his family, didn’t he?” the Democratic presidential nominee said at an African-American church in Cleveland to about 200 churchgoers, according to Politico.

“And what has he heard from Donald Trump? Nothing but insults and degrading comments about Muslims — a total misunderstanding of what made our country great, religious freedom, religious liberty. It’s enshrined in our Constitution, as Mr. Khan knows, because he’s actually read it,” she added.

“I don’t begrudge anyone of any other faith, or no faith at all. But I do tremble before those who would scapegoat other Americans, who would insult people because of their religion, their ethnicity, their disability. That’s just not how I was raised. That’s not how I was taught in my church.”

Khizr Khan during his speech at the Democratic National Convention asked what Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has ever sacrificed for the country, and insinuated he’s never read the Constitution.

Trump, in response, attacked Ghazala Khan, implying she didn’t speak during her husband’s remarks because of her Muslim faith.

Trump defended his remarks on Twitter Sunday, saying he was “viciously attacked” by Khizr Khan.

“Am I not allowed to respond? Hillary voted for the Iraq War, not me!”
