Republican nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday said he doesn’t regret the comments he made toward the family of Army Capt. Humayun Khan, a Muslim American killed in Iraq.
{mosads}”I don’t regret anything,” Trump said in an interview with ABC7.
“I said nice things about the son and I feel that very strongly but of course I was hit very hard from the stage and you know it’s just one of those things, but no I don’t regret anything.”
Khizr Khan, the father of Humayun Khan, spoke critically of Trump last week at the Democratic National Convention. In his speech, the elder Khan asked if Trump had read the Constitution and said the GOP nominee had sacrificed nothing.
In response, Trump criticized Khan and questioned why his wife did not speak at the convention, too, suggesting it had something to do with her religion.
He also noted the sacrifices he’s made in his business career and said Khizr Khan had no right to question his views on the Constitution.
Trump’s response has drawn days of criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.
On Tuesday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), a strong Trump supporter, said it was “inappropriate” to criticize the family of Capt. Humayun Khan and other Gold Star families.
President Obama also said Tuesday that Trump is “unfit” to serve as president and called on Republican leaders to abandon their support for their nominee.
