Trump expected to endorse Ryan: report

Donald Trump plans on endorsing Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Friday, days after declining to back the Speaker, Fox News reported.

The network said Trump will announce his support for Ryan at a campaign rally in Green Bay, Wis., citing two highly placed GOP sources.

{mosads}Trump on Tuesday declined to endorse Ryan ahead of his primary election next week.

“I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country,” the GOP presidential nominee told The Washington Post. “We need very strong leadership. … And I’m just not quite there yet. I’m not quite there yet.”

Trump’s language was an apparent allusion to a May interview in which Ryan said he was not ready to back Trump for president right after he became the party’s presumptive nominee.

“To be perfectly candid with you … I’m just not ready to do that at this point,” the Speaker said at the time.

Trump’s refusal on Tuesday sparked backlash from top Republicans concerned about party unity heading into November.

His running mate, Mike Pence, sought to ease tensions Wednesday by “strongly” endorsing Ryan.

Trump on Thursday called Ryan “a good guy,” adding that Pence had his blessing to support the Speaker.

Businessman Paul Nehlen is challenging Ryan in the GOP primary this Tuesday.
